It seems like just yesterday I was reflecting on 2012 and our involvement with Helix Nebula, the launch of our Media Services Ecosystem, various , and numerous other 2012 achievements. It’s hard to imagine it’s been a full year since then! But, 2013 proved to be just as busy, if not busier, than 2012 and we’re excited to conclude it with numerous advancements to our public cloud that reaffirm our position as the most innovative and flexible public cloud provider on the market.
Perhaps the biggest update to our cloud platform in 2013 was the launch of CloudSigma 2.0, which incorporated private patching technology, and, true to CloudSigma form, broke down barriers to public cloud adoption. Now, customers can directly connect their infrastructure to our public cloud via private vLANS, and not a public IP. And, hopefully this will ease the minds of the 58 percent of companies that cite security concerns as the reason why they haven’t moved to the public cloud. For companies in highly-regulated industries, such as financial services (a sector where we saw a 500 percent revenue growth in 2013!), we’re hopeful our private patching technology becomes a catalyst for mass migration to the public cloud!
Other notable upgrades with our CloudSigma 2.0 announcement included our all-SSD high-performing storage, SDN support enabled by Plexxi, and advanced CPU options for better application performance. With these enhancements, customers saw a 30 percent increase in performance, which allowed us to drop our prices in 2013 not once, but twice, because of increased efficiency and resource management.
We also formally announced our hybrid hosting capability this year, further guaranteeing the security of customers’ sensitive company data. With it, customers are granted collocated space and private patching to our public cloud at all four of our data center locations – one of which just opened in October as we expanded our public cloud into Equinix’s Washington, D.C. location. Failover between Equinix locations grants customers more reliability and redundancy than previously available.
Throughout 2013, the enhancements to our public cloud platform were recognized in a number of exciting ways. On top of being named a Cool Vendor in Gartner’s Cool Vendors in the European Cloud Computing Market 2013 report, we were a winner of TMC’s Cloud Computing Excellence Award and a finalist for three awards, Storage Visions Conference Visionary Awards, The Cloud Awards and Tech Trailblazers (for which you can vote for us as a 2014 Trailblazer between now and January 23 by following this link)! We were also acknowledged in the technology and business media alike, including the Forbes article, Big Media Meets the Cloud about our ability to grant media companies a faster time to market (the media industry is another industry in which CloudSigma saw explosive revenue growth, at the rate of 200 percent!) and the InformationWeek profile, CloudSigma IaaS Avoids Amazon Approach about our 2.0 cloud.
We were also proud to be a launch partner for Deutsche Börse’s new Cloud Exchange trading platform making exchange style trading of computing resources a reality. Talking of partnerships, we had a great weekend down at the European Space Agency in Rome supporting the entrants to the 2013 NASA Space Apps Challenge.
With 2014 only weeks away, the team is already working on the latest platform developments, with advancements to our storage offering on the horizon plus advanced access control policies so customers can easily and securely enable access to their computing infrastructure within CloudSigma clouds. Throughout next year, we will continue to offer our customers a feature-rich public cloud platform with everything that’s needed to accommodate varied compute needs. We have many exciting things to come in 2014, so stay tuned! In the meantime, have a happy holiday!
